Four years ago, my life changed dramatically. After getting COVID, I developed a series of health issues that left me homebound. Today I live with congestive heart failure, asthma, COPD, and atrial fibrillation. I rely on oxygen and spend most of my time inside my apartment. The only time I typically leave home is for doctor appointments every few months.

For many people, collecting is a hobby. For me, it’s an escape. I fell in love with Bearbricks because of the creativity and artistry behind them. Every design tells a different story, and every piece brings something new into my world. When I look at my collection, I don’t just see toys—I see art, imagination, and a way to temporarily step outside the limitations of my daily life. I’ve always loved art and hope to customize my own pieces someday when I’m able.

I’ve also always had a connection to bears. Growing up, people often called me a teddy bear because of my size and personality, so collecting Bearbricks feels oddly personal. Living on a limited fixed income means I rarely have the opportunity to add new pieces to my collection, which makes every acquisition feel special. My collection may not be the biggest, but every piece means something to me. In many ways, Bearbricks help me experience a world beyond the walls of my apartment.
